MARCELO JIMÉNEZ SANTOS
He was born on October 6, 1959, in the Maya community of Noh-Cah, Municipality of F. Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo, Mexico. He is a Technician in Hospitality and Gastronomy (CONALEP) 1983–1986 and holds a General High School Diploma - 2002, Accredited Knowledge according to Agreement 286 SEP.
He worked as an Assistant in the academic area at CONALEP Carrillo Puerto, Delegate of the Quintana Roo Institute of Culture in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo; Director of the Casa de la Cultura of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo; Head of the Quintana Roo Regional Unit of Popular Cultures of DGCPIU - Federal Ministry of Culture, In-charge of the Museo Maya Santa Cruz Xbaalam Naj in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo, Focal Point in Quintana Roo for UNESCO Mexico Office, Director of Municipal Indigenous Affairs, and Coordinator of the Arts Center at the Universidad Autónoma de Quintana Roo, Felipe Carrillo Puerto Campus.
In 1988, he received the State Journalism Award in the cartoon genre; in 1995, the Creators with Career Award from the State Fund for Culture and Arts; and in 2010, he was awarded the "Cecilio Chi" Indigenous Cultural Merit Medal by the Congress of the State of Quintana Roo.
As a visual artist, he has participated in countless painting exhibitions, both individually and collectively. His work in painting, teaching, promotion, management, and artistic-cultural diffusion has been uninterrupted.
His actions in the creation, promotion, and dissemination context have contributed to making proposals related to art and the expressions of current Maya culture present in new scenarios and to new audiences, both locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
In the academic field, he has participated in countless forums at the local, state, regional, and national levels; presenting conferences, workshops, and talks on the topic of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of the region.
He has served as a Focal Point in Quintana Roo and Regional Consultant in Maya PCI for the UNESCO Office in Mexico.
